The elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus were held in accordance with the Constitution, in an orderly and proper manner, as Sergei LEBEDEV, Head of the CIS Observer Mission and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, told the journalists at a press conference of the Mission. According to him, the elections on November 17 were held in accordance with the Election Code of the Republic of Belarus, on a competitive basis, openly and publicly, were free and transparent and complied with the principles of democratic elections. “We formed an opinion that the campaign was organized well, properly, and that some of the past election campaigns’ shortcomings were taken into account,” added the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.
Mr LEBEDEV said that international observers had the opportunity to observe the elections in all regions of the Republic of Belarus, and they received “a fairly detailed picture” of the preparation for the elections, as well as the voting itself.
The Head of the CIS Observer Mission at the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus also said that he was pleased by working together with the representatives of the OSCE ODIHR, as it provides an opportunity for mission participants to exchange opinions.
“We make our position known to the Western observers, which, as we have seen, they take into account in their final statements... And we certainly take into account the observations and assessments made by our colleagues from the Western missions,” said Mr LEBEDEV.
