Milovan Drecun welcomed Serbia’s increased participation in CSTO PA observation missions
On April 2, international observers from the CSTO PA at the regular election of the President of the Republic of Serbia and early election of deputies to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia led by their coordinator Vladimir Novikov, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, met with candidates from political parties running in the election. CSTO PA observers met with Milovan Drecun, member of the Serbian Progressive Party, Chair of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija; Jovan Palalić, General Secretary of the Serbian People’s Party; and Đorđe Todorović, member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, all of whom participate in the 2022 election.
They discussed the progress of the election campaign; candidates for the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia shared their views on the political situation and the preparations for the election. They also answered questions from international observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
During the discussion of the election, Jovan Palalić emphasized that the Serbian side deems it necessary to intensify relations with the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. “We will continue active communication after the election,” Jovan Palalić noted.
In turn, Milovan Drecun welcomed the increased participation of the members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s observation missions.
As you may recall, international observers from the CSTO PA were invited by Ivica Dačić, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, to monitor the preparation and conduct of the election of the President of the Republic of Serbia and early election of deputies to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
The CSTO PA international observers are representatives of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States: National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Federation Council and State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
On February 15, 2022, Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, the Law on the President of Serbia and at the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, dissolved the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (Parliament) and set the early election for April 3.
On March 2, 2022, Ivica Dačić, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, signed a decree scheduling the regular presidential election for April 3, 2022.
On the day of presidential and early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Serbia, international observers from the CSTO PA will be present at polling stations in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, from the opening of polling stations until the end of the vote count.
Since 2013, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has been an observer to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
