Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan urges CSTO to be more active in the UN peacekeeping activities
.“Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, took part in the regular meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Council of Ministers of Defence via videoconferencing,” reports the press service of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the defence ministers of the CSTO Member States considered challenges and threats to military security in the regions of collective security and measures to counter them; they also discussed measures to improve the crisis response system and develop peacekeeping capabilities within the Organization.
“We believe it is necessary to intensify the work on involving the CSTO in the UN peacekeeping activities, which President of Kazakhstan noted at the summit on May 16. This will not only strengthen CSTO’s legal standing, but will also serve to develop the peacekeeping capabilities of the Organization through practical participation in international peacekeeping operations,” the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan said during the meeting.
Following the meeting, the parties approved the 2023 CSTO Plan for Joint Training of the Collective Security Command Bodies and Formations of Forces and Assets and provisions on the base educational and methodological organizations for training military experts in electronic warfare and on the base research organization of the CSTO Member States for research of electronic-warfare development.
The next meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defence is scheduled to be held in the second half of 2022 in the Republic of Armenia.
