- Russian Defence Ministry evacuates citizens of CSTO states, Russians and Ukrainians from Afghanistan
A Russian Ministry of Defence military transport plane landed in Tajikistan at the Gissar airfield to deliver citizens of the republic who had been evacuated from Afghanistan. Two other airliners landed in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Defence Ministry’s website reports.
Earlier, four military transport planes of the Russian Defence Ministry took off from the airfield of Kabul, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, taking on board more than 500 citizens of the Russian Federation, CSTO Member States (Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan), Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
On instructions from Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu, Russian Minister of Defence, arranged for the evacuation of citizens of the Russian Federation, CSTO Member States, Uzbekistan and Ukraine from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan by military transport planes.
