Model law on CSTO peacekeeping was included in the Parliamentary Assembly’s agenda
Anatoly Vyborny, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Defence and Security, characterizing the draft model law On Peacekeeping Activities and Peacekeeping Forces that was reviewed at the joint session of the CSTO PA Standing Commissions, noted that it has been reviewed at the meetings of the Expert Advisory Board under the CSTO PA Council four times: after the introduced amendments and additions it was approved by the expert community and reviewed by the parliaments of the Organization’s Member States; all experts’ comments have been taken into consideration.
“The draft model law On Peacekeeping Activities and Peacekeeping Forces is a logical completion of the Treaty on Peacekeeping Activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization; its main objective is to work out consistent approaches to the formation, training and, most importantly, functioning of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces,” stressed Anatoly Vyborny.
“This is especially important in view of the tension we see not far from our borders.”
Aleksandr Rakitin, first deputy Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Security of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and a representative of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Defence and Security, noted the enormous amount of work that had gone into the draft model law and thanked everyone who had taken part in the development and expert examination of the law.
