On February 25, the parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States monitored the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Belarus.
According to the results of the observation, the international observers state in their Final Report that "free expression of the will of the voters was ensured during the voting. The voter turnout at the polling stations is characterized by high activity and positive motivation, which testifies to the interested and responsible attitude of the organizers and participants of the electoral process to the elections".
On the eve of the elections, the members of the group headed by Alisher Erbayev, Kyrgyz Deputy, met with Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus; Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairperson of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus; and Igor Karpenko, Chairperson of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Holding Republic Referenda.
On February 25, the members of the group visited 24 polling stations in Minsk, the Public Election Observation Centre and were present at various stages of voting – from the opening of polling stations to the tabulation of the voting results by the polling station election commissions.
Members of the group did not record any complaints about the quality of preparation of lists of citizens eligible to vote, the procedure of issuing ballot papers or the voting procedure. The CEC, territorial and precinct election commissions created all necessary conditions for effective work of international observers.
The participants noted a high level of public order during the preparation and holding of elections, which contributed to the creation of favourable conditions for the free formation of voters' opinion and attitude to the candidates, will and expression of their will. In particular, all the polling stations visited by the group of international observers from the CSTO PA were equipped with the voting booths for people with limited mobility, some polling stations were equipped with computers for the use of headphones by hearing-impaired citizens, and all necessary documents were provided in Braille.
The results of the observation are reflected in the Report of the international observer group published on the official website of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly paodkb.org.
