CSTO PA observers spoke about monitoring the Kyrgyz presidential elections
Rustam Shokhmurod, coordinator of the international observer group of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly monitoring the presidential election and referendum on determining the form of governance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Chairman of the Committee on Law and Order, Defence and Security of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli participated in the joint press conference of the CIS Mission. According to the CSTO PA observer group coordinator, as part of the short-term election monitoring on January 8 and 9, the group met with Nurjan Shaildabekova, Chairwoman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic, presidential candidates Klara Sooronkulova and Kanybek Imanaliev and representatives of Sadyr Japarov’s election team.
On election day on January 10, international observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly attended the opening of polling stations and monitored voting throughout the day at 37 polling stations in Bishkek.
According to Rustam Shohmurod, the elections and referendum were characterized by broad participation of international and citizen observers, and the preparation and conduct of the elections and referendum “was carried out in accordance with the election laws of the Kyrgyz Republic and international law.”
