Parliamentary Assembly observers work at polling stations in St Petersburg
International observers of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly who arrived in St Petersburg last night as part of international observation of the elections to the Russian State Duma met with Natalia Chechina, Chairwoman of St Petersburg City Election Commission.
The Chairwoman of the City Election Commission briefed the observing parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States about the situation in St Petersburg during the election campaign and after the first day of voting.
“One of our main tasks is to train observers,” she reminded.
CSTO PA international observers are currently working in precinct election commissions, directly observing the voting process. Observers are checking the integrity of yesterday’s ballots, communicating with local observers and members of precinct election commissions. Observers asked questions about possible violations; according to members of precinct election commissions and public observers, all issues are solved as the work proceeds. Voter turnout is low yet, but the main flow is expected in the afternoon. The observers will visit a number of precinct election commissions and the Public Election Observation Centre in St Petersburg.
