Nurlanbek Shakiev was elected the new Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
As you may recall, Talant Mamytov announced his resignation at the October 5 session of the Jogorku Kenesh.
Nurlanbek Shakiev was born on May 13, 1977 in Kara-Zhygach village, Aksy district, Jalal-Abad region. In 1999, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness of the Agrarian Academy with a degree in management.
Professional career:
1996–1997: deputy editor-in-chief, then editor-in-chief of the Obon newspaper;
1997–1999: editor-in-chief of the Uchkun newspaper;
1999–2004: first deputy editor-in-chief of the Erkin-Too newspaper;
2004: press secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic;
2005–2006: editor-in-chief of the Erkin-Too newspaper;
2006–2009: press secretary to President Kurmanbek Bakiev;
2009–2010: adviser to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic;
2009–2010: general director of ElTR public broadcasting company;
2010–2011: Minister of Culture and Information of the Kyrgyz Republic;
2017: founded and headed the NewTV television channel;
2017–2021: general director of Channel 2 LLC.
Since December 2021: deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the 7th convocation from Aksy electoral district.
Nurlanbek Shakiev is a state councillor of the 2nd class.
