Nurlanbek Shakiev Calls for Increased Interaction Between the CSTO and SCO

Speaking at the CSTO PA Council meeting in Minsk, Nurlanbek Shakiev, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, urged his colleagues to intensify international cooperation between the CSTO and other international organizations, particularly the SCO, as these organizations have many overlapping strategic goals.

Mr Shakiev began his remarks by reminding his colleagues that the past year 2022 marked an anniversary of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the CSTO, as well as the 15th anniversary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

“Let me note that since its establishment, the CSTO has fulfilled its important mission and has become an effective international organization, one of respected collective institutions in Eurasia. Through our joint efforts, we have been consistently strengthening the development of regional cooperation in all aspects of CSTO competence, increasing its capacity to respond promptly to the challenges and threats to security,” said Nurlanbek Shakiev.
