Oleg Belokonev reported on new threats at the eastern borders of the CSTO
At a meeting of the Chairpersons of the CSTO Committees of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States on International Relations, Defence and Security on February 1 in Moscow, Oleg Belokonev, Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, reported on the main trends in the military and political situation around the country.
The Belarusian representative expressed his concern about the direct challenges to military security from the West, which are manifested not only in the gradual build-up of military presence near the borders of the CSTO countries, but also in the active waging of a “mental warfare” aimed at destroying the identity and changing the mental and civilizational basis of society.
“In order to achieve its objectives, the West is making maximum use of the fugitive opposition. Today, the priority of the ‘fugitives’ is to further activate the ‘Peramoga’ plan, which is based exclusively on the use-of-force scenario <...>. Significant importance is also attached to the creation of ‘contingency forces’ inside Belarus (sleeper cells and underground radical groups). These processes are essentially curated by Western intelligence services,” said Oleg Belokonev.
In addition, the Belarusian speaker said that the West is ready to “liberate the country” in 2023, which in fact means beginning large-scale subversive activities in Belarus, which can be expected to peak in 2024–2025 during the electoral campaigns in Belarus.
“Further militarization of European countries and the build-up of foreign military presence in Poland and the Baltics, along with the intensification of command and combat training activities in the Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian territories, can significantly increase the level of military threat,” Mr Belokonev concluded.
Today, on February 6, Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced the establishment of a new division near the borders of CSTO Member States. It will be equipped with American Abrams tanks and South Korean K-2 tanks, as well as Polish AHS Krab and K-9 howitzers. These preparations may indicate that Poland is turning into a US military beachhead.
To repel threats on the western borders of the Union State, Moscow and Minsk began to activate a regional group of forces. Flight and tactical exercises of Belarusian and Russian aviation units were held in Belarus.
