Kant airbase will be reinforced with air defence systems
The joint Russian airbase Kant in the Kyrgyz Republic is being reinforced with air defence systems, Interfax reports quoting Major General Rustam Minnekaev, deputy commander of the troops of the Central Military District (CMD) of the Russian Federation.
“They (plans – IF) are being implemented. Not yet implemented, but being implemented,” Interfax quotes him as saying in response to a question about the deployment of anti-aircraft defence complexes at the Kant airbase.
In February 2020, Russian deputy Minister of Defence Nikolai Pankov said that the Russian military was planning to deploy anti-aircraft defence systems at the Kant base.
At the same time, Aleksandr Lapin, commander of the CMD troops, said that Kant airbase had been reinforced with reconnaissance drones.
In the summer and autumn of 2021, with Taliban movement (a terrorist group banned in Russia) coming to power in Afghanistan, the Russian military also reported reinforcing the 201st base in the Republic of Tajikistan with new weapons and equipment.
Kant airbase is the aviation component of the CSTO Collective Rapid Deployment Force. It is equipped with Sukhoi Su-25 attack planes and Mil Mi-8 helicopters.
