Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, met with Yermek Kosherbayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.
Participants of the meeting discussed the results of the CSTO PA parliamentarians’ observation of the election to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan; the results of the CSTO Collective Security Council; potential work on the model legislation under the 2021–2025 Action Plan, including in the area of public health, and also touched upon the preparation for the forthcoming session of the CSTO PA Council.
As you may recall, a group of observers from the CSTO PA monitored the election of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament on January 10, 2021.
CSTO PA international observers in Nur-Sultan worked from the opening of polling stations until the end of the vote count, visiting 49 polling stations on election day.
Umakhan Umakhanov, coordinator of the group of CSTO PA observers, deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the Russian State Duma, later reported, “The election to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan were organized and held at the highest level.”
Mr Umakhanov noted that under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan “organized everything very well, all sanitary norms were strictly followed” and the fact that “our closest ally held the election at such a high level is a success for us as well.”
In his turn, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO PA and Chairman of the Russian State Duma, congratulated Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament, on the successful election of the Mazhilis deputies, noting that “according to the State Duma deputies who were monitoring the election, it [the election campaign] was open and competitive,” highlighting the high level of election organization.
