CSTO parliamentarians at Minsk conference declare unity in preserving historical memory
Participants in the international parliamentary conference Historical Memory: The Great Victory Obtained Through Unity held in Minsk on June 14–15 adopted a resolution calling to hold sacred the memory of those who perished in the fight against Nazism and to condemn any justification of the Nazi movement. They also called on the peoples and parliaments of the nations across the globe to actively oppose attempts to revive Nazi ideology and deem attempts to falsify history and revise the results of the Second World War inadmissible.
“The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is determined to further increase model lawmaking and international cooperation to oppose the revival of Nazism,” Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, said at the conference.
He recalled the Address adopted by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War which stressed that “uniting efforts and parliamentary consolidation is the way to preserve and strengthen the moral foundation of the international security system, while the approximation and harmonization of national law prevent modern-day radicals and extremists from putting humanity on the verge of extinction and reliably protect life and freedom of our descendants from the Nazi threat.”
Sergei Pospelov noted that, along with the already approved Recommendations on the Improvement of Legislative Support of Countering Crime on the Grounds of National, Racial and Religious Intolerance in the CSTO Member States and Recommendations on Improving the National Legislation of the CSTO Member States in the Area of Countering the Dissemination of Nazism and its Manifestations, the 2021–2025 CSTO PA Action Plan on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States stipulates the development of a number of model documents on countering Nazism, in particular, Recommendations on Penalizing Attempts to Rehabilitate Nazism, Distort Historical Truth, Humiliate Military Veterans, Equate the Role of the USSR and Germany in the Second World War and Belittle the Humanitarian Mission of the USSR in the Liberation of Europe.
Participants of the conference included delegations from the parliaments of CIS Member States, CSTO Member States, in particular the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, representatives of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus and Russia, academics and experts.
