CSTO Parliamentary Assembly mourns Igor Lavrinenko
On the night of May 13 and 14, 2021 Igor Lavrinenko, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, passed away at the age of 60.
Igor Lavrinenko was a true military officer, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan decorated with orders and medals of the Soviet Union and the Republic of Belarus who served his way from cadet to general. He enjoyed great authority and genuine respect of his colleagues in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
His proposals were always well-reasoned and deeply thought-out, and his decisions were clearly weighted. His voice was well-heard in the Standing Committee.
He will be sorely missed by all of us.
“This is a great loss, both for his family and friends, and for the entire post-Soviet political space, for all of us. I knew him to be a decent, kind and compassionate man. He was a professional in his field who made a huge contribution to the development of military and technical cooperation in the Union State and actively promoted ideas of Belarusian-Russian integration. During the difficult years when he was executive positions, Mr Lavrinenko did his utmost to maintain neighborly relations with Russia and to strengthen the common security, peace and cooperation between our countries. He enjoyed great authority among his colleagues. We will keep in our hearts the good memory of Mr Lavrinenko,” said Anatoly Vyborny, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Defense and Security, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Security and Corruption Control.
