Parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States will coordinate their work at the OSCE PA
Coordination Meeting of representatives of parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was held remotely and was chaired by Mahmadali Mahmadullo Vatanzoda, first deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and head of the parliamentary delegation of Tajikistan to the OSCE PA.
During the meeting, Andrei Savinykh, deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, said that the parliamentary delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA plans to submit for consideration a draft resolution Prevention of Drug Use Among Children and Youth.
“Everyone knows that drug use causes serious damage to health, leads to social degradation, becomes a threat to life and has an extremely adverse effect both on public health and order in every country.” According to Andrei Savinykh, prevention and raising public awareness of this problem is crucial.
The topic raised in the resolution is very relevant, said the head of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA, but the representatives of the Belarusian delegation were surprised that the OSCE PA and the OSCE Ministerial Council had not considered the link between drug prevention and youth in their decisions or resolutions.
Certainly, said Andrei Savinykh, the OSCE in its practical work pays enough attention to such transnational challenges as drug trafficking.
The delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus proposes “to strengthen the relevant ambition of the OSCE with a corresponding thematic resolution that would focus on the prevention of drug addiction among young people.”
Andrei Savinykh invited the delegations of the CSTO States’ parliaments to support the Resolution.
