Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union discussed cooperation intensification
According to zakon.kz, Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Duarte Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, met to discuss promising areas of cooperation; the parties spoke in favour of enhancing parliamentarians’ joint work.
According to the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the interaction between the Kazakh parliamentarians and their counterparts from the Inter-Parliamentary Union Member States contributes to building a constructive dialogue on parliamentarism, lawmaking and democratization.
Nurlan Nigmatulin highlighted the processes of political system reformation, economy modernization and civil society development taking place in the Republic of Kazakhstan on the initiative of the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
As part of the “listening state” concept, the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan has adopted a number of laws aimed at democratization of the election process and improvement of the election legislation, empowerment of women and holding of peaceful assemblies, stressed Nurlan Nigmatulin.
“Kazakhstan is a very important partner for the Inter-Parliamentary Union. We share common principles: the establishment of the inter-state, inter-religious dialogue. We also strive to achieve economic development,” said Duarte Pacheco, the IPU President.
Duarte Pacheco also expressed confidence in further strengthening of cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, stressing that the new IPU strategy is aimed at intensifying the organization’s work.
Nurlan Nigmatulin reported on the current work of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan to improve the legislation in the area of protection of human rights and freedoms through development of the ombudsman institution; in the fight against corruption; protection of children’s rights and volunteer activities.
