According to the press service of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the CSTO PA and the Chairman of the State Duma proposed it during the session of the interparliamentary commission of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
The session of the interparliamentary commission was opened by Vyacheslav VOLODIN and Maja GOJKOVIC, Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
“It would be right for us to establish an institution to protect historical memory. Considering that both citizens of the Soviet Union, the Russian people, and citizens of Yugoslavia, the Serbian people, have suffered huge losses in this bloody war. You and I both understand that it is necessary to protect the memory of the fallen,” said Vyacheslav VOLODIN, adding that “the people of Serbia have put themselves on the brink of actual destruction while fighting against fascism, and the war has left its mark on every family here as well.”
According to the CSTO PA Chairman, creation of such an institution involving scientists and experts “would allow to take steps in the humanitarian and education spheres to remain objective towards that time, to protect the truth and memory of the dead.”
He recalled that a number of European countries attempt to distort the truth about the war and the Victory. “It offends us more than any sanctions,” stressed Mr VOLODIN.
Maja GOJKOVIC fully supported Vyacheslav VOLODIN’s proposal.
“We must support this initiative by all means. It is extremely important for the Serbian people, for the Republic of Serbia,” she said. “We want to participate in the establishment of the institution of historical memory at the parliamentary level,” said the Chairwoman of the National Assembly, promising that parliamentarians will communicate this proposal to the Serbian government.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has an observer status in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Today, on the sidelines of the interparliamentary commission meeting, the CSTO PA Executive Secretary Sergei POSPELOV will meet with the head of the Permanent Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the CSTO PA, Milovan DRECUN.
