A mourning wreath and flower laying ceremony in commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the complete lifting of the fascist siege of Leningrad took place in Siege Survivors’ Park near the monument to the Courage of the Leningraders on Maurice Thorez prospekt.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg, representatives of veteran organizations and Society of Survivors of the Siege of Leningrad.
“My grandfather fought on other fronts, but the memory of the Siege must live in the hearts of all of us. The Victory in the Great Patriotic War is an achievement of the people from all our republics of the former Soviet Union; we must always remember it,” said Sergei POSPELOV, CSTO PA Executive Secretary in his speech.
The IPA CIS Secretary General Dmitry KOBITSKY in his speech recalled the role of the peoples of the USSR (now the Commonwealth of Independent States) in the defence of Leningrad and the breakthrough of the Siege: “We appreciate the courage and resilience of all those who defended the city. We remember the heroes who gave their lives for our common Victory,” he said.
The solemn mourning ceremony was attended by Secretary General and Head of the Secretariat of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council Dmitry KOBITSKY, Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Parliaments of CIS countries: Hayk CHILINGARYAN, National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia; Victor KOGUT, National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus; Askhat NUSKABAI, Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Irina SOKOLOVA, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation; Sergei POSPELOV, CSTO PA Executive Secretary; Victor ROGALEV, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, CSTO PA Deputy Executive Secretary; members of the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg; Society of Survivors of the Siege of Leningrad; president of the Hrachya POGHOSYAN charity fund and other guests of honour.
The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is preparing an Address on the Occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
