Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, as reported by the kremlin.ru website.
“The situation with the spread of coronavirus infection has been discussed,” the report says. “Emomali Rahmon expressed his appreciation of the Russian humanitarian aid.”
According to TASS, the presidents of the two member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization discussed other topical issues of Russian–Tajik cooperation in trade, economic and other areas.
The conversation was initiated by the Tajik side. As the press service of the President of Tajikistan reports, the conversation also touched on labour migration issues. The President of Tajikistan “positively assessed the steps taken by the Russian side” to allow migrant workers to extend their stay in Russia.
As reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation, on April 2, Tajikistan asked Russia and other countries to help fight the spread of coronavirus infection.
“A note containing Tajikistan’s request has already been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, where it is being considered,” the agency reported. Tajikistan requested medical masks, medical gowns and protective overalls for medical personnel, as well as gloves and coronavirus detection tests.
According to Khovar news agency, during the discussion of international issues, the vital role of continued strengthening of security cooperation was stressed.
At the same time, the sides focused on the most relevant issues of military and technical cooperation and development of the Afghanistan situation, as well as the development of fruitful partnership within international and regional organizations.
