Putin Called to Counter the Rise of Nationalism and Neo-Nazism
In his speech at the meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Board on February 28, Vladimir Putin, President of Russian Federation, said that it was necessary to take an active stand against extremism in all its manifestations.
“We need to expose and curb the illegal activity of those who are trying to divide and weaken our society by using separatism, nationalism, neo-Nazism and xenophobia as their weapons,” he said.
The President of Russia called to step up the efforts to stop those who use the Internet and social media to promote nationalism and neo-Nazism and attempts to enlist Russians into terrorist groups.
As you may recall, on November 23, 2022 in Yerevan, the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO Member States adopted a joint statement condemning the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and extremism.
“Secretaries of Security Councils of the CSTO Member States express concern and condemn the growth of manifestations of glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism, extremism, chauvinism, all forms of xenophobia, hatred, racial and national superiority that pose a real threat to democratic and common human values, security, social stability and unity,” the joint statement reads.
The Recommendations on Improving the National Legislation of the CSTO Member States in the Area of Countering the Dissemination of Nazism and Its Manifestations (2019) are based on the analysis of the national legislation of the CSTO States and contain legislative approaches to the definition of Nazism and its manifestations and also formulate proposals to improve the corpus delicti in this sphere.
The 2021–2025 CSTO PA Action Plan includes plans to work on model documents that respond directly to issues relating to combating the resurgence of Nazism. In addition, work is under way on Recommendations on the Harmonization of the CSTO Member States’ Legislation in the Area of Military-Patriotic Education and Upbringing (with the development of a draft CSTO model law On Military-Patriotic Youth Organizations).
