Russia is prepared to propose to include among CSTO special capabilities radiation, chemical and biological protection units
Against the backdrop of coronavirus infection, the Russian Federation is prepared to propose to the Collective Security Treaty Organization Member States to include among the Organization’s special capabilities nuclear, biological and chemical protection units and medics.
Rashid Nurgaliyev, deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said this in an interview with Interfax today.
“As part of improving the collective security system and taking into account the new type of threat, we are prepared to propose to our allies to consider including among CSTO’s special capabilities medical units and nuclear, biological and chemical protection forces,” said the deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
Rashid Nurgaliyev noted that the coronavirus pandemic has further united the CSTO Member States and their security councils in the fight against the existing threats.
“Relevant organizations – sanitary, health-security and medical services, migration bodies, air transport and tourism regulators – have been cooperating by phone or remotely on a permanent basis; emergency and defence ministries were working together on various issues,” he said.
He reminded that Russia provides assistance to partner states, in particular, by supplying test kits for COVID-19 diagnostics.
“Mobile laboratories and test kits have been delivered to the Republic of Armenia to examine the personnel of the Armenian Armed Forces and the 102nd Russian military base,” Rashid Nurgaliyev said.
