Russia Offers Open Partnership for Sharing Public Health Security Data
Russian authorities offer an alternative to US biolaboratories. This was announced by Anna Popova, of Rospotrebnadzor, at the session Biosecurity Sovereignty of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum, which was held from 10 to 13 September in Vladivostok.
Such alternative would involve an open partnership with exchange of public health security data instead of deploying biolabs to collect information, as the US does.
“We know that our neighbours already host American biolaboratories that have restricted access and do not report anything about their activities. Rospotrebnadzor, on the other hand, offers other terms of cooperation. Together with our partners, we are ready to conduct research, exchange data and jointly fight the spread of infections,” said Ms Popova.
As you may recall, a session of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on December 5, 2022 in Moscow adopted a statement on the inadmissibility of the development of biological (bacteriological) and toxin weapons. The experts of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly also prepared a draft law on medical and biological security.
In 2023, the CSTO Charter was amended to stipulate that the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization cooperate on biological security, among other areas.
