Russian Motorized Rifle Units Held Exercises in a Mountain Gorge in Tajikistan
Servicemen of the motorized rifle units of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan held a successful training exercise to destroy a sabotage and reconnaissance group of a simulated enemy in a mountain gorge. During the “fire assault”, they were supported by mortar artillery.
According to the training scenario, the simulated enemy was planning an attack on infrastructure facilities. Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles performed reconnaissance, determining the number of enemy manpower and equipment. The 2B11 Sani mortar complexes fired concentrated shots at targets at a distance of up to 4,500 meters from closed firing positions.
The motorized rifle units, covered by artillery, furtively approached the enemy. The RPG-7B grenade launchers hit the lightly armored vehicles by flare-up fire. Using AK-74 and AK-12 assault rifles and Kalashnikov machine guns, the servicemen destroyed the enemy's main manpower. During the pursuit, the BMP-2 crews eliminated the remaining enemy with fire from 30 mm cannons and 7.62 mm machine guns.
The training took place at the Sambuli training range under the guidance of experienced instructors. More than 100 servicemen and more than 10 units of military equipment took part in the event.
As you may recall, on February 7, Moscow hosted a meeting of Chairmen of the Committees (Commissions) on International Affairs, Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States, raising the issue of strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border. Ravshan Rajabzoda, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation and Human Rights of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted that the CSTO is required to adopt a set of measures aimed at combating trafficking of weapons and drugs, illegal migration, penetration into the region by members of terrorist and extremist groups and their ideology, and, generally, countering challenges and threats to security emanating from the territory of Afghanistan.
