Samat Ordabaev: It is important to raise international awareness of our organization’s activities
Samat Ordabaev, deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, in his speech at the working meeting between the plenipotentiary representatives of the CSTO Member States to the CSTO and plenipotentiary representatives of the CSTO Member States’ parliaments to the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly drew particular attention to executing the heads of the CSTO States’ assignment to promote the Organization’s image.
Samat Ordabaev noted, “Several speakers voiced a very clear idea that taking into account modern geopolitics and the current situation, we need to strengthen the work on the image promotion of our Organization, on its proper positioning. Moreover, there are two decisions of the Collective Security Council and the Organization’s Development Strategy until 2025. There is also a direct assignment from the heads of states to work on the image, on the proper positioning, on conveying the right understanding of our Organization’s activities to the international community. I think it is very important.”
Samat Ordabaev also emphasized the “internal” aspect of this work. “It is necessary to strengthen our states with this work. A new generation is growing up, there is a society that needs proper explanations, because it is no secret how our Organization is generally perceived abroad.
It is necessary to properly protect the common interests, especially since parliamentarians, as the Russian Permanent Representative said, have good means, have their own forms of work that are very effective in some ways.”
Addressing the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Samat Ordabaev called for participation in the elaboration of an analytical document on the evolution of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO activities since its establishment.
“This document will show the main milestones in the evolution of our organization,” he said, stressing that “we need to properly set our new priorities, not to spread ourselves too thin, as they say,” said Samat Ordabaev, calling on the Parliamentary Assembly and the CSTO PA Secretariat, “We ask the Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat, distinguished representatives of our parliaments, to submit their proposals. They will be very valuable considering your experience and your capabilities,” emphasized the deputy CSTO Secretary General.
“I think it was a very useful talk,” said Samat Ordabaev. “At least, we have once again confirmed and heard our states’ position; many interesting proposals have been voiced.”
