Today is the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.
In his greetings on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Russia and Belarus can resolve the most complicated issues of the Union State. “The accumulated experience of joint work will help the two countries find optimal approaches to all, even the most complicated issues that are hindering the development of the Union State,” reports the Kremlin.ru website.
“For over two decades since the signing of the Treaty on Establishing the Union State, our countries have managed to develop mutually beneficial integration mechanisms, significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy, scientific, technical, cultural and other fields,” said the President of the Russian Federation.
In reply, in his greetings, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stressed that “development of mutually acceptable solutions in the spirit of true alliance is a serious undertaking for the glorious future of the peoples of Belarus and Russia.” He also pointed out that the launch of integration processes within the Union State helped fill the Belarus–Russia relationship with deeper content and created real advantages for effective economic and social development.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the State Duma, said in his greetings that “for centuries, our brotherly peoples have been united by spiritual and moral values, traditions, history, culture. We are forever united by the memory of the joint struggle and achievement of our fathers and grandfathers who gave their lives for the Victory, in the name of freedom and our future,” the press service of the State Duma of the Russian Federation reports.
The Chairman of the CSTO PA pointed out that today important tasks of mutually beneficial cooperation are being addressed within the framework of the union integration and noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia is working to approximate legislation in the interests of citizens of the two states.
The Day of Unity of Peoples of Russia and Belarus is a holiday commemorating the establishment of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, celebrated annually on April 2. TASS recalls that on this day in 1996 the Treaty on Establishing the Union State of Russia and Belarus was signed. Traditionally, on this day both capitals hold festive events. However, this year they are hampered by anti-epidemic measures. According to TASS with reference to the Assistant Secretary of State of the Union State Elena Ovcharenko, due to the epidemic the planned meetings and concerts in the capitals of the two countries and a press conference will not be held.
