Sergei Lavrov: Bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are a part of the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Force
Russia did not offer the United States to use its bases in the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic in the context of the Afghanistan situation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Interfax.
According to the agency, Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to exchange country updates obtained through its military bases in the region.
“How can we invite the Americans to the CSTO Collective Response Force bases? Unlike the case we have just discussed, where one side decides for 28, we act in accordance with our obligations.
We cannot invite anyone to a base that is part of the CSTO forces without our allies’ knowledge,” said Sergei Lavrov.
Russian Foreign Minister also noted that Moscow “is ready to assist in deescalating the situation and exchange information on the real situation ‘on the ground’ in Afghanistan as part of maintaining our Afghanistan contacts in the format of the Russia–China–U.S. trio, the extended trio including Pakistan or in other formats.”
The Kommersant newspaper reported earlier that during the Geneva summit Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to U.S. President Joe Biden to coordinate actions on Afghanistan.
