Sergei Rachkov: the "Eurasia" Group Will Issue a Statement on the 80th Anniversary of the Victory at the IPU Assembly
The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will take place from April 5 to 9 in Tashkent. Prior to this event, a meeting of the "Eurasia" geopolitical group was held via video conference, attended by Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the "Eurasia" geopolitical group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
At the conference, the participants discussed the key points of the upcoming Assembly's agenda in order to coordinate the positions of the "Eurasia" group's parliaments.
They agreed to prepare a draft Statement of the "Eurasia" group to mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. The Statement is expected to be adopted on April 5, at the face-to-face meeting of the group in Tashkent.
"The 'Eurasia' group has prepared an important Statement in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This historical event is of great significance to our countries, and we consider it extremely important to pay tribute to the heroes who defended peace and freedom. The Great Victory was a turning point in world history, changing the fates of people and the map of the world. Our goal is to preserve the memory of the feat of the people whose solidarity and unity, hard work and selflessness ensured peace, freedom and independence for the new generations. Taking this into account, the Statement of the group is aimed not only at paying tribute to the heroes but underlining the importance of unity and collaboration between countries today. We believe that our common historical memory can become a powerful tool to promote the values such as peace, freedom and mutual respect," stated Sergei Rachkov.
The plan for the upcoming Assembly entails adopting resolutions on issues related to the parliamentary strategy on mitigating the long-term impact of conflicts (including armed conflicts) on sustainable development. The deputies will also discuss the role of parliaments in promoting the two-state solution in Palestine.
As you may recall, the "Eurasia" geopolitical group was established in 1998 at the 100th Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference in Moscow.
