Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of South Africa: the need for common security is an imperative
On December 19, the meeting of the Council and the 16th plenary session of the CSTO PA brought together not only representatives of the CSTO Member States, but also guests from Algeria, China, Cuba, Iran, Serbia and South Africa.
Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of South Africa, said that “the need for collective and common security is not just a regional problem, but an imperative that requires collective efforts and cooperation of all countries.”
“In today’s interconnected world, where security threats transcend national borders, cooperation among countries cannot be overestimated. The work of the Assembly is an example of how parliaments can actively contribute to regional security and stability, both through direct legislative action and by facilitating dialogue and understanding among Member States,” said Ms Mapisa-Nqakula.
She also recalled that challenges such as terrorism, transnational crime, cybersecurity threats and pandemics know no national boundaries. They affect nations indiscriminately, irrespective of their geographical location or level of development.
“Regional collective security efforts must therefore serve as building blocks for achieving global peace and common security for all humankind. A bloc of alliances such as the CSTO serves as an important platform that creates a sense of solidarity and understanding within the region. It lays the foundation for resolving conflicts, preventing tensions and mitigating threats,” the South African guest emphasized.
Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula said South Africa continues to call for a just system of global governance, which includes the need to transform the UN.
