Speaker of the Parliament of China expresses interest in cooperation with CSTO parliaments
Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, in a video address to the participants of the meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization held in Yerevan today, June 6, noted that the PRC and CSTO Member States “have common interests on a wide range of issues related to maintaining peace and stability in the region.”
“Today, the world is undergoing unprecedented major changes,” said Li Zhanshu, “the wave of the coronavirus infection has not subsided.
Conventional and non-conventional security threats are on the rise. Unilateralism, hegemony and the power politics pose an urgent threat. Humanity faces growing security challenges.”
Li Zhanshu recalled that Xi Jinping, Chairman of the PRC, at the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia, put forward the global security initiative and systematically outlined China’s stance and approaches to protect global peace with a focus on the indivisible security of all humanity.
“We advocate the importance of the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, forming a long-term common security system guided by the principles of mutual respect and indivisibility of security, solving security issues through dialogue, partnership and mutual benefit and abandoning confrontational and bloc thinking and zero-sum game approach,” Li Zhanshu stressed.
He noted that the global security initiative was driven by the need to ensure international peace and welcomed the participation of members of the international community, including the CSTO Member States.
