Assessing the international and regional security situation and possible risks for Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization are the focus of a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils that opened in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia.
According to RIA Novosti, the session was opened by Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. He expressed hope that the participants of the meeting will be able to “analyze and assess the situation in international and regional security and weigh up possible risks for the Member States in a constructive and open exchange of opinions.”
Ararat Mirzoyan said that the meeting will address a wide range of issues and decide on political, defence and security matters.
According to the press service of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, “The joint CFM, CDF and CSSC meeting plans to make a number of important political statements, including statements of the foreign ministers of the CSTO Member States on strengthening the international and regional security architecture and arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as statements of the secretaries of security councils condemning attempts to glorify Nazism, neo-Nazism, extremism, chauvinism and all forms of xenophobia.” A number of issues on the agenda were discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO CFM on November 22.
As you may recall, the joint meeting of the CSTO CFM, CMD and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the CSTO Member States precedes a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council that plans to discuss more than 20 issues, says the CSTO press service. “One of the most important issues will be improvement of the CSTO crisis response system... The CSC session is expected to adopt a declaration of the Collective Security Council.
