Vasily Piskarev: The Great Victory is One of the Main Unifying Events in the History of Our States
Leaders of all CSTO Member States attended Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also attended the parade marking the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On the morning of May 9 Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, personally welcomed all CSTO and CIS leaders to the Kremlin. After the parade, the Russian President and the invited heads of state went to the Alexander Garden to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
“The presence of the leaders of all CSTO Member States at the May 9 parade in Moscow demonstrates that the Great Victory remains one of the most important and unifying events in the history of our states. No matter how hard some try to divide our countries, we have much more in common than what separates us,” Vasily Piskarev, deputy of the Russian State Duma, said in his commentary to the press service of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
He stressed that “the sincerity with which the people of our countries celebrated the holiday yesterday – they came to war memorials carrying flowers and portraits of their loved ones and singing military songs – is the best proof of this. This is the people’s recognition of the high value of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the decisive contribution of the peoples of the Soviet Union to its achievement.”
As you may recall, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, in his congratulations on Victory Day focused on the need to preserve the truth about the Great Patriotic War for future generations.
