On Tuesday, September 6, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, observed the active phase of the Vostok 2022 strategic command-and-staff exercise at the Sergeevsky training ground. Exercise participants practiced ensuring military security in the Eastern region.
According to TASS, citing Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian President, before the exercise Vladimir Putin held a closed meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, and Valery Gerasimov, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
More than 170 foreign representatives watched the main stage of the Vostok 2022 exercise that involved a group launch of Iskander-M missiles. Exercise participants included over two thousand foreign servicemen.
The strategic command post exercise Vostok 2022 planned various action options for joint-force and coalition groups of troops in the interests of military security of Russia and its allies in the area of responsibility of the Eastern Military District (EMD).
Servicemen practice defensive and offensive actions at nine training grounds: Burduny, Goryachiye Klyuchi, Knyaze-Volkonsky, Lagunnoye, Sergeevsky, Telemba and Uspenovsky, as well as in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan and their coastal areas.
More than 50,000 servicemen, more than 5,000 pieces of armaments and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats and support vessels are involved in the manoeuvres.
In addition to the Russian Federation, representatives of the CSTO, SCO, Algeria, Azerbaijan, China, India, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua and Syria are taking part in the exercise.
From the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the military command authorities and troops of the Eastern Military District, part of the Airborne Forces, long-range and military transport aviation forces are taking part in the exercise.
The Vostok 2022 exercise is being conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on Confidence Building in the Military Field in the Border Area of 1996 between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the People’s Republic of China.
As you may recall, the CSTO PA parliamentarians also traditionally take part in the military and political monitoring of the Organization’s exercises.
