Military Contingents from Russia and Tajikistan Start a Joint Exercise
A joint exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan has commenced at the Kharb-Maidon mountain-desert training range, located in the Khatlon province of Tajikistan (at the border with Afghanistan). The exercise will continue until April 7.
According to the website of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the exercise will involve units of the 201st military base (more than 300 servicemen), including mountain, motorized rifle, tank, artillery and NBC protection units and electronic warfare mobile groups of the Central Military District.
The exercise is planned to involve practicing the preparation and conduct of a joint operation to eliminate illegal armed groups in mountainous terrain.
As you may recall, the 201st military base in Tajikistan is the largest Russian military facility outside its borders. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defence, NBC protection and communications units.
