In his congratulatory message on Cosmonautics Day, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, called Yuri Gagarin's flight into space "the greatest breakthrough in the development of the mankind as a whole".
As you may recall, on April 12, 1961, the Vostok launch vehicle put into orbit the first manned spacecraft with pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin onboard. After orbiting the Earth once, the descent vehicle landed on the territory of the Saratov region.
"The event, which this holiday is dedicated to, changed the whole course of development of the mankind... Yuri Gagarin's flight became the greatest breakthrough of domestic science, the civilian feat of developers, cosmonauts and pilots, military doctors, engineers and workers," said Vyacheslav Volodin.
On May 18, 2023, at the meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Minsk, the parliamentarians of the Organization adopted a Statement on the prevention of arms race in outer space. It was noted that in the modern world it is vital to increase the predictability of countries' activities to explore and use the space; and the main task is to preserve outer space from armaments.
