Today, on July 2, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO PA and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, met in Minsk.
"For our part, we should try to do our best to contribute to the interests of the citizens of our states, by developing inter-parliamentary cooperation" Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized.
In turn, Igor Sergeyenko noted the importance of discussing joint priorities and future activities within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation to "serve as a reliable support for our presidents and states, to move forward, to fill our work with a specific meaning".
Vyacheslav Volodin congratulated his Belarusian counterpart on the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus and the 80th anniversary of the Belarus' Liberation from Nazi Invaders.
"This is our common history, and we should always remember the price we paid for the Victory. I would like to express my gratitude: Belarus is doing a lot to preserve the historical heritage, the memory of the fallen soldiers, officers, everyone who gave their lives for the freedom of our country," said Vyacheslav Volodin.
As you may recall, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted Recommendations on Liability for the Actions Related to Nazism Rehabilitation and Distortion the Historical Truth. According to the Explanatory Note to the Recommendations, “preserving the historical memory of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, defending the historical truth, preserving and supporting traditional spiritual and moral values are of fundamental importance for all CSTO Member States, for strengthening their national and civil identity, ensuring interethnic and interreligious peace and harmony, and successful socioeconomic development.”
