Opening the remote 59th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, stressed, “our commissions will continue to work even more efficiently so that through the formation of model laws and harmonization of legislation in the Union State we could address common challenges and threats, develop the economy and do everything possible to ensure that the citizens of our countries enjoy the benefits of the Union State.”
According to the website of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin outlined the tasks facing the Assembly. “First of all, it is the approximation of legislation to ensure equal rights for the citizens of our countries and improve effectiveness of joint projects.” “Our task is to find practical solutions to improve the lives of citizens of our countries through harmonization of legislation,” he stressed.
Vyacheslav Volodin urged the deputies of the two countries to work more effectively on forming a common legal framework. “It is a prerequisite for enhancing economic cooperation, which is very important for the development of our countries.”
“For us, Belarus is the main trade partner among the CIS countries. We need to create equal conditions for market access for our companies and support small and medium business,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia adopted the 2021 Action Plan and the International Activities Plan and approved the draft budget of the Union State for 2021.
According to Parlamentskaya Gazeta, it amounts to 4715.15 million Russian roubles with a surplus of 47.5 million roubles. The 2021 Union State budget will finance 35 programmes.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is an observer to the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
