Vyacheslav Volodin Congratulates the CEC on the 30th Anniversary of Its Establishment
On Sunday, September 24, Russia celebrates the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Central Election Commission. 30 years ago, on the eve of the nationwide vote on the draft constitution and elections to the Federal Assembly, the CEC was established, and further development of electoral law in the Russian Federation was based on the Constitution.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, congratulated the staff of the Commission on the anniversary.
“The establishment of our electoral system is inextricably linked to the development of Russia, strengthening of statehood and democratic foundations, ensuring the constitutional rights of citizens. The competence, professionalism and responsibility of the CEC members largely ensure competitive, open, legitimate elections, the solution of important state tasks, the future of our country,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
As you may recall, CEC members cooperate with the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly as experts on a permanent basis. The CSTO countries have developed a legal standard for the protection of democratic elections as part of the prevention of foreign interference in electoral processes.
