Addressing the deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, said that “Russia regards the detention of diplomats in Kosovo, including a Russian citizen, as a complete disregard for international law and believes that the UN should express its position on this issue, since stability in the Balkans depends on its determination.”
“We join you in condemning the provocations against the Serbs in Kosovo,” he said, calling the incursion of the Kosovo special forces in the north of Kosovo on May 28 “a provocative step aimed at intimidating the Serbs and establishing control over these areas by force.”
The CSTO PA Chairman confirmed that “all parties must comply with the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1244, and those who do not follow these decisions must be held accountable.” “Interests of the sovereign Serbia must be fully taken into account in accordance with international law,” stressed Mr Volodin.
He pointed out that “countering modern challenges and threats requires a new security architecture throughout the Eurasian space; it should be based on the inviolable principles of international law.”
Therefore, he pointed out, Russia believes it is important for deputies of the National Assembly to participate in the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Let us recall that a resolution of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization granted the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia observer status at the CSTO PA.
