States’ participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization imposes certain requirements for the compatibility of weapons systems for carrying out joint tasks.
These requirements were based on the List of Weapons and Military Equipment of Forces and Assets of the CSTO Collective Security System, Their Parameters and Numerical Ratings Ensuring Their Technical and Information Compatibility.
The List was developed to ensure the interoperability of the military contingents of CSTO States as part of the collective security system in the course of their joint operations, as well as to optimize the logistics support by establishing a unified list of ammunition and fuel products.
The draft List has been agreed on by all CSTO Member States and approved by the Decision of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defence of May 27, 2013 in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Recommendations are therefore intended to contribute to the creation of a CSTO system similar to STANAG, NATO’s Standardization Agreement. It establishes and defines ways, procedures, terminology and conditions for unification within the framework of unified armed forces or technical operations or equipment (materiel) among the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance.
In addition, the Recommendations enable technical interchangeability of weapon systems developed and adopted in the CSTO Member States.
