May 14 Is Day of the State Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem of Belarus
On April 12, 2023, by his decree, the President of the Republic of Belarus introduced amendments to the Decree of March 26, 1998 On National Holidays, Holiday Days and Anniversaries in the Republic of Belarus.
These changes changed the name of the Belarusian public holiday from The Second Sunday in May Is the Day of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and State Flag of the Republic of Belarus to The Second Sunday in May Is the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem and State Anthem of the Republic of Belarus.
According to the press service of Aleksandr Lukashenko, “the new name will pay tribute to all three state symbols of Belarus.”
In 2023, the holiday will be celebrated on May 14.
As you may recall, the red stripe on the Belarusian flag symbolizes the courage of the people, green is the colour of life and hope, the colour of the forests and fields, while the white stripe with ornaments symbolizes the purity of the people and their high spirituality.
The Belarusian coat of arms was last changed in January 2021. The green outline of the state border of Belarus has turned golden. Spikes, clover and flax on the wreath have slightly changed the shape. The colour of the continents has also changed from blue to dark orange.
In July 2, 2002, the text and music of the national anthem were approved by the President of Belarus. On December 8 of the same year, the channel ONT launched an event Let's Sing the Anthem Together that became a new tradition.
