The Leningrad Region is hosting an informal summit of leaders of the CIS Member States consisting of the heads of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, pointed out that 2025 was declared the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism in the CIS. He emphasized that the victory over Nazism in 1945 should be promoted as a common value for all humankind.
The Russian leader noted that the CIS countries remember and honor the feat of the peoples of the entire Soviet Union, who fought shoulder to shoulder and “forged victory in the Great Patriotic War.”
“We must strive to preserve the historical truth about the events of those years, the memory of the cost of liberating the world from Nazism, to promote the perception of the victory of 1945 as a common value for all humankind,” Vladimir Putin emphasized.
He also invited the leaders of the CIS states to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in Moscow and offered the military units from these countries to take part in the parade.
As you may recall, on December 9 in Moscow, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted the Address to the Parliamentarians of the World in Connection with the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and Anti-Hitler Coalition in the Second World War. The parliamentarians called on the world community to join efforts in preventing the revival of Nazism and preserving the most important moral values for future generations.
