August 22 Is the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation
In 2023, the Day of the State Flag of Russian Federation is celebrated on August 22. The Russian tricolour has been one of the most important national symbols for more than 30 years.
All significant events in the life of the country are marked by raising the national flag. The Day of the State Flag of Russia was established in 1994. However, the history of the Russian flag is already more than 310 years old. Its creator is considered to be Peter the Great, who in 1705 issued a decree that obliged all merchant ships to sail exclusively under a white-blue-red flag.
On this day, patriotic events, sports competitions, various flash mobs and concerts are traditionally held all over Russia.
The holiday usually begins with the raising of the Russian flag to the anthem of the Russian Federation. Also on this day state awards are usually presented.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, congratulated Russians on the holiday.
"The Russian flag is the state symbol that personifies Russia, its adherence to traditions, fidelity to historical memory and readiness to defend national interests. We are proud of our country! Congratulations on the holiday! Happy National Flag Day of the Russian Federation!", wrote Vyacheslav Volodin.
