Meeting of the Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
The session was presided over by Alen SIMONYAN, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation, deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
Sergei POSPELOV, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, reported on the results of the work of the CSTO Member States’ parliamentary delegations at the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (February 20–21, 2020, Vienna).
Participants of the video conference fully supported the draft Address of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to the parliaments of the Council of Europe Member States on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory over fascism in the Second World War.
Dmitry NOVIKOV, deputy Chairman of the Commission, first deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, reported on preparations for holding inter-parliamentary hearings concerning the current state and development of the international political situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and on the measures of further improvement of the collective security system and its legal support, scheduled for June 18, 2020 in St Petersburg.
Konstantin ZATULIN, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, reported to the video conference participants on the priorities of the Russian Federation’s 2020 CSTO presidency and updated them on the Federation Council’s Statement on Solidarity with the People of Cuba and Development Prospects of Russian–Cuban Relations, adopted by Order No. 497-SF of November 25, 2019, that was presented by Olga KOVITIDI, member of the Committee on Defence and Security of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Alen SIMONYAN, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation, deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, informed the Commission members about the results of the November 2019 session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and the progress of ratification of international treaties concluded within the framework of the Organization.
The draft 2021–2025 Action Plan of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States was supported.
Members of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation supported the proposal of Olga Kovitidi, member of the Committee on Defence and Security of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, to start working on recommendations for the CSTO Member States on coordination of actions to protect against viral and other biological threats.
