Russia started scheduled flights of its Aerospace Forces air group to Serbia to assist in combating the spread of coronavirus infection.
According to updated information, four Ilyushin Il-76 of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces carrying Russian military experts and equipment flew from the Chkalovsky military airfield to the Republic of Serbia to help fight the spread of coronavirus infection. This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
The aircraft will take an team of expert military doctors, virology and epidemiology experts with modern epidemiological diagnostics and disinfection equipment to the Batajnica airfield (20 kilometres north-west of Belgrade).
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Russian Minister of Defence has issued instructions to establish an air group for rapid delivery of assistance to Serbia in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection.
At present, eight doctor-nurse teams with modern medical equipment, as well as a team of NBCP (nuclear, biological and chemical protection) experts are gathered at the Chkalovsky military airfield and are ready to be transported by IL-76 of the Russian Aerospace Forces to Serbia. They are equipped with the necessary stock of disinfectants and are prepared for disinfection using pathogenic-material analysis equipment, aerosol treatment of vehicles, buildings and structures.
Eleven flights of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces are planned for the transfer of personnel and equipment; they will bring to the Republic of Serbia 87 servicemen, including military medics, virology experts of the NBCP troops, special medical and protective equipment and 16 vehicles.
On April 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the head of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić. On March 26, the Serbian Cabinet of Ministers asked Russia for assistance in the fight against the new coronavirus.
