Aleksandr Markevich: The hardest part of an observer’s mission is to maintain neutrality
In Astana, international observers from the CSTO PA continue their meetings with representatives of the political parties involved in the early parliamentary election in Kazakhstan.
As you may recall, international observers need to remain neutral. The observation process must be based on principles of impartiality, objectivity and transparency of the available facts and circumstances.
Aleksandr Markevich, CSTO PA international observers team coordinator and deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, stressed the importance of this requirement.
“The hardest part of an observer’s mission is to maintain neutrality, not to give in to his or her goodwill towards one candidate or another,” Mr Markevich said.
Observers monitor the compliance with the law, transparency and fairness of the electoral process.
As you may recall, the CSTO PA international observers base their work on the principles of the Convention on Standards of Democratic Election, Voting Rights and Freedoms in the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (Chisinau Convention): the principles of political neutrality, objectivity, non-interference in the election process and compliance with the election legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
