Andrei Savinykh: Countries of the collective West are not ready to negotiate at the moment
At the meeting of the heads of the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States to the OSCE PA, Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and head of the parliamentary delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA, emphasized: both the Belarusian delegation and all the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States have always proceeded from the understanding that “we need to come to terms.”
We need to seek compromises, find solutions that will be mutually acceptable for all the states in order to protect peace and progressive development of not only our countries, but also of the entire humanity.
“These are the classic approaches of diplomacy which, in general, worked,” said Andrei Savinykh, “but which, in my opinion, stop working even now.”
The head of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation to the OSCE PA which, as well as the Russian delegation, will not participate in the 29th session of the OSCE PA in Birmingham, said, “Judging by the current world events, we see that all conflicts are starting to become ontological, which means that the party that starts them, which, to speak frankly, is the collective West, aims to destroy, to win, which means that it is not currently ready to negotiate.”
“I say these words now with deep regret and grief: because we are in a situation where classic diplomatic dialogue, inter-parliamentary dialogue becomes simply impossible,” said Andrei Savinykh.
Covert and essentially deceptive methods are being used, and the real actions are being carried out by way of Realpolitik.
“As a result, all efforts to achieve peace and all attempts at constructive dialogue, in fact, will be doomed to failure and moreover, the saddest thing is that this position will always be weaker than that of a direct aggressor. This the attitude we observe towards the CSTO and our countries,” the parliamentarian noted.
“In my speech I call on all parliamentary delegations of our countries to ponder this issue. If nothing else, we need to change our tactics, including in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly; we need to consolidate and build mechanisms to protect the interests of our states and our region amid confrontational behaviour of our counterparts – I do not want to say ‘adversaries,’ so let us just call them that,” said Andrei Savinykh.
