Armenia expects a CSTO PA observer mission to its elections
The presence of international observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization at the early election to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia is important to us, said Alen Simonyan, Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and Chairman of the Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
International observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are themselves members of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States, so they have been through election campaigns in their states and base their election monitoring efforts on election monitoring instruments adopted within the framework the Commonwealth of Independent States, primarily the Convention on Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the State Parties of the Commonwealth of Independent States (Chisinau, October 7, 2002), which clearly defines the standards for democratic elections.
In other words, they are guided by clear criteria that have been adopted and are in force in the CIS. This prevents double interpretations depending on the political climate, biased monitoring and even the slightest hint of interference in the internal affairs of the state where observation is conducted.
This is important, as the clear monitoring criteria demonstrate its objectivity and will allow the observers’ conclusions to be taken into account.
We are confident that Armenia’s elections will meet the highest standards.
