Armenia Ratified Information Security Treaty with Russia
On Wednesday, the Armenian parliament ratified an information security treaty with the Russian Federation concerning cooperation.
69 deputies voted to ratify the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental treaty On Cooperation in the Field of Information Security of April 19, 2022.
The document covers cooperation and coordination of activities addressing international information security within the framework of international organizations and forums and holding working meetings, conferences and seminars.
“Information security is one of the most important components of national security. It is very important to harmonize the national legislations of all the Member States of the Organization in this field within the CSTO,” commented Aleksei Fatyanov, a member of the Expert Advisory Board under the CSTO PA Council, professor of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
The expert noted that such treaties as the one with the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of information security ratified by Armenia are very important.
As you may recall, the information security system of the CSTO Member States is being formed by the following main aspects: improvement of the legal basis of cooperation in the sphere of information with participation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, preparation of proposals on harmonization of the national legislation in the sphere of ensuring information security and improvement of combating crimes in the sphere of modern information technologies.
The model law On Information Security adopted at the plenary session of the CSTO PA on November 29, 2021, is the legal basis for regulation of relations connected with identifying the main threats to information security and areas and measures for its ensuring to strengthen collective security for the CSTO Member States. It allows timely identification and counteraction to hybrid threats instigated by both Western intelligence services and transnational corporations and development of joint plans to repel information attacks, including, inter alia, in the cross-border information space.
The Security Councils of Armenia and Russia have been designated as coordinating bodies for the implementation of provisions of the Armenia-Russia treaty.
