“Tajikistan, being at the forefront of the fight against extremism and terrorism, is actively working to prevent them from penetrating into the republic and, accordingly, into the CSTO area of responsibility,” said Dilshod Safarbek Rakhmon, Chairman of the Committee of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Ensuring Constitutional Foundations, Human and Civil Rights and Freedoms and the Rule of Law, speaking at the field session of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Dushanbe on July 1.
“We suggest to accelerate the formalization and proceed to the practical implementation of the plan to equip the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces with modern weapons and military and special equipment, providing inter-parliamentary assistance for the consistent implementation of the CSTO Collective Security Council decision On the List of Additional Measures Aimed at Reducing Tensions at the Tajik-Afghan Border, and to finalize the legalization and proceed to the implementation of the Targeted Inter-State Programme for the Fortification of Sections of the Tajik-Afghan Border, noted Chairman of the Committee of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Ensuring Constitutional Foundations, Human and Civil Rights and Freedoms and the Rule of Law.
The Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan has recently passed a revised version of the law on combating terrorism, said Dilshod Safarbek Rakhmon.
The republic’s relevant agencies have done a lot to identify and prosecute members of banned extremist and terrorist organizations, as well as citizens of the republic involved in armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq and persons involved in recruiting citizens to join ISIS and sending them to the said countries.
“Dear colleagues, recent developments in the region and the world clearly demonstrate that modern extremism and terrorism are becoming increasingly threatening. Countering them is complicated by the fact that extremist and terrorist organizations started acting nationally. They are agile and flexible, and they use unsupervised electronic channels to communicate with organized crime,” said Dilshod Safarbek Rakhmon.
